Met Galla 2015: Favourite Looks of the Night

Yesterday marked fashion’s most prestigious event of the year, the 2015 Costume Institute Gala. As the red carpet rolled up, and photographers lined up at the start, Anna Wintour’s star studded guest list began making their appearance. Below are some of the individuals who did justice to the night’s theme of “China: Through the Looking Glass.”

Decked out in Robert Cavalli, Joan Smalls radiates edgy, Chinese goddess.

Rihanna stuns in this Guo Pei ensemble, complete with a floral motif headpiece. She’s one of the few guests of the night dressed by a Chinese designer, and you can see the country’s charm emanating from the fibres of this couture piece. Hands down my favourite look of the night.

Ivanka Trump’s dress beautifully reflect’s China’s iconic blue and white ceramics. The cape drapes so elegantly across the stairs, it would make any onlooker swoon. Moment of silence for the fierceness that is J.Lo and this ethereal dragon gown. Just, no words.

Kate Hudson absolutely glows in this Michael Kors gown, dripped in gold. Traditional Cheongsam dress with a triple shot of glamour, coming right up!

There’s just something about this ensemble that keeps me coming back. Alexa Chung is a freaking goddess in my eyes, and this bubblegum pink Erdem dress, patterned in floral motifs just reaffirms my love for her. The baby blues adorning her toes keep the outfit playful and fun, adding just the right amount of sparkle.

Lily Aldridge knew what she was doing when she chose this grey toned Carolina Herrera gown. With its traditional cheongsam neckline, and skirt reminiscent of flowing lakes, the Judith Leiber fish clutch was a soul singing, match made in heaven.

Maxwell Osbourne and Dao Yi Cho of Public School killed it with their traditional take on the classic suit and tie. Definitely the most innovative look among the night’s selection of menswear.

All in all, it was so inspiring to see how much effort guests spent tying together Chinese elements to their final looks. It’s one of the reasons I adore the Met Gala. I love seeing the creativity in the outfits, and watching as the world stops for a moment, taking a second to appreciate the overlooked artistry of fashion and style.
